Choose 2 mini lessons that you felt were the most beneficial in your learning for that particular project. Include photos of these and explain thoroughly. Do you feel you need more instruction for success? Explain or did you feel that the instruction given was enough to ensure success? Explain.
Contour drawing of the shoe and backpack were the most beneficial for my contour line project. In the very beginning of this assignment, I had a lot of trouble with trying to make the lines proportional to the actual object. It didn’t go well. Before these two final pieces there were about three redo’s for each piece because I wasn’t satisfied with the results. Some failed pieces were because of shading when you’re not supposed to and others were because it was too small. It was very difficult to achieve this until my art teacher has given me more instruction on how to contour line draw (Ex: draw the whole shape before working on a very small part). Now, thanks to her I was able to fix what i couldn't do before and successfully made a decent piece.
Look over the portfolios of other students in our class. Choose a piece of artwork from one of your classmates that you feel is an exemplary showcase of what the project was to depict. Discuss how the artist used the medium, utilized the elements of art and design principles, was original with their ideas and went beyond their comfort zone or the realm of the requirements.
This piece was made by an artist named Rachel. The project was to draw food and use color pencil as the medium. By looking at her piece I am able to say she executed it very well. The blend of colors look very smooth and the piece looks realistic. It’s clear she has spent a lot of time on it and tried hard in order to succeed (also because we sat at the same table and saw how hard she tried). I think during this whole process, she was most attentive with the highlights and the reflected light. You can see that there is a blend of different colors and went out of her comfort zone to achieve the reflected look.
What medium was your favorite to work with? Explain why and how you were able to master the techniques associated with this medium.
Prisma color. Prisma color is one of the easiest medians I’ve ever used. The only reason for that is most likely because of the blending. Compared to other medians I’ve used in this class ( charcoal, normal color pencil, pastel) I've liked the results of prisma the most. Prisma isn’t messy like charcoal and it doesn’t dull out if touched with your finger like the way pastel does, it stays bright and colorful. What made me master the median was the mini assignments associated with it. The forms we were assigned to do with prisma color has helped me practice technique and has overall taught me how to properly handle prisma color.
Discuss one project where you felt you were the least successful. Explain why you felt this way. What would you do differently to change this piece? Explain .
My still life piece. I’d say my proportions weren’t the best and could add more to rid of any empty space. Time was also an issue so it was very hard to catch up with everyone else since I was out for two weeks. Something I would do differently is ask another person from this class to take photos and send them to me so I would be able to catch up while I was at home. I would also like to work more on contrast. If you look at it from afar then you can tell that there isn’t much darkness to the piece at all. The proportion of the flowers could have some more work as well. Not only does it look 2d but it's also very small and doesn't cover up the empty space. Overall I consider this a failed project and am a little disappointed of the results.
